They Light A Way That Only Leads To Shallow Graves

josh of all trades.

I’m stuck in my own time capsule. Looking at old pics from some of my first shows played on a stage. That was about 8 years ago and I can’t help but laugh at how ridiculous I looked, yet how hard I tried to get on that level.  that first photo was taken in 2004 at the first show I ever played with my band, Nowhere Heroes. We were the only 4 kids in our school, our TOWN even, that listened to punk rock and started getting into the idea of being in a band.  That first show went really well.  Our other guitarist, Juan, had talked up the local bands that we were playing with SO much that we were also quite nervous. In the end, the crowd loved it and so did the bands.  It was a good feeling and we all had family there which is also really cool.  Nowhere Heroes later went on to become “40 oz. Bandits”.

Haha, we got a new drummer and thought we had found the way to sound more punk than ever before. I think we played less than 5 shows before it just sorta fizzled away into nothingness.  The second photo is from the next band I joined up with, Stout City Luchadores.  Stout City because we were based out of Victoria, TX where all the punk dinosaurs as they call em were quite fond of their Stout beers.  Back in those days, giving your city an underground nickname brought about a special camaraderie in the local scene, but I’m not so sure anyone still lives up to those identities anymore. Only the true believers remain.

After SCL, I moved to my current home in McQueeney, TX where I joined forces with my buddies, Matt, Josh and Kenneth, who already had their established band, The Bluebonnet Plague.  I personally don’t have any pictures of any of our shows together strangely. Perhaps there are some floating out there.

And now, for 8 years I’ve dedicated my life to music and the yearning to perform on stages FOR people I not only call fans, but friends and family.  I’ve had my share of stages in small clubs, barns, gooseneck trailers and more and have graduated to medium sized clubs and even sold out venues.  It baffles me sometimes where I am today and I couldn’t be more thankful for any of it.  I also have so many friends and family to thank as well that I’m sure if ever write my own record, instead of lyric sheets, the booklet will contain the names of every single person I can remember so that I can thank each one of them for their help and support along the way.

It’s been a crazy ride and I’m so stoked to see what happens next!
